Our Story

We, brothers Jonathan and David Kim, have been making bone broth for over fourteen years after discovering the incredible health benefits it held for us and our family. During college, we became interested in sourcing our food and meat directly from local, sustainable farms in Minnesota. While getting to know the farmers, we learned not to let the bones go to waste. We learned how nourishing broth is for the gut and the entire body, and we certainly loved how our bodies felt drinking broth daily.

After college, Jonathan moved to Seoul, South Korea for six years, where he fell in love with Korea’s rich broth culture and traditions. Upon returning to the States, he longed for hot, ready-to-drink broth. He dreamed of popping up a broth stand on the corner of the city and ladling up free broth for anyone and everyone.

Jonathan’s dream grew and evolved into a business idea, with neighborhood broth shops that could provide nourishment and healing in a simple and accessible format, while still finding a way to donate broth through soup kitchens and other spaces serving disadvantaged communities.

David had a background in holistic medicine, and had worked in the regenerative agriculture space with a strong network of farmers. In 2021, David was planning on attending law school when Jonathan called him and convinced him to abandon that path and join forces to start Trad Bone Broth.
